Overview

ACI and JV Partners have entered into a Power Generation & Natural Gas Project Co-Development and Pre Off-Take Agreement leading to developing a nominal 1500 MW, combined cycle base load, Natural Gas fired power plant. The plant will be erected on the JV Partners site, giving access to existing grid networks and will alleviate electricity supply pressures in the Western Cape Province focused to persist for the next 5 to 7 years. It will supply all of the power requirements of the JV Partners (up to 250MW). The additional electricity (+/-1 150MW) will support the energy requirements for a myriad of entities as well as the City of Cape Town sold at prices below the ESKOM Megaflex rates. Natural Gas in the form of LNG will be imported through the Port of Saldanha.

The Construction & Installation Phase of the entire project will consist of the following:

  • 1500MW gas fired power plant on JV Partners land
  • Supply contract for 1.6 Million ton LNG from LNG facilities in the US
  • 3 X 175,000 m³ LNG vessels (on contract basis)
  • 1 X 180,000 m³ LNG regasification (on contract basis)
  • 2 X 66MW New Build Rolls Royce Trent 60 (the Trent 60’s will be used for regasification in the port of Saldanha)
  • Substation and Grid network upgrades to sustain up to 1500MW of additional power fed into the local grid
